French banks top fallers in Europe on data, tax concerns
** France's Credit Agricole CAGR.PA, SocGen SOGN.PA, BNP Paribas BNPP.PA fall 3-5%, leading a weak banking sector in Europe .SX7P following disappointing business survey data and likely weighed down by questions over a possible bank tax
** One trader also cites a slight widening of French government bond spreads after 33-year-old Antoine Armand was named the new finance minister, adding that he expects any bank tax to be moderate
** Gap between French and German 10 year bond yields, DE10FR10=RR a gauge of the higher returns investors demand for holding French debt over the European benchmark, widens to 79.6 basis points, highest since early August market volatility GVD/EUR
** Prime Minister Michel Barnier on Sunday opened the door to raising taxes on France's wealthiest individuals and some big corporations to help close a gaping hole in the public finances
** By 1012 GMT, Europe's banks .SX7P down 1.1%, while the region-wide STOXX 600 .STOXX gains 0.2%
