Thyssenkrupp names Henne as steel unit's new supervisory board head
DUESSELDORF, Sept 26 (Reuters) -Thyssenkrupp named Ilse Henne as chairman of its steel division's supervisory board on Thursday as part of a management shuffle at the unit after the previous leadership departed amid a deepening conflict over the future of the steel business.
Henne succeeds Sigmar Gabriel, who announced he was stepping down last month along with several other members of Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe's (TKSE) management and supervisory boards.
The move created a major leadership vacuum at a time when Germany's top steelmaker urgently needs a new business plan.
At the core of the clash is the question over how deep job and capacity cuts at TKSE should be, and how much money it needs ahead of a partial sale to Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky.
"The task now is to set the course for a successful future for the company together with Thyssenkrupp AG and the employee representatives," said Henne in a statement on Thursday.
Knut Giesler was appointed to the unit's supervisory board on behalf of employees and elected deputy chairman, while Dennis Grimm was confirmed as spokesperson of TKSE's executive board, a position he has held since end-August, Thyssenkrupp said.
