UK's Smiths Group falls on annual profit miss
** Shares of Smiths Group Plc SMIN.L fall as much as 7% to 1,691p, stock top pct loser on FTSE 100 .FTSE index
** The UK engineering firm posts a miss in its annual profit, hurt by a sluggish US construction market and subdued demand for its heating, ventilation and air conditioning products
** Headline operating profit 526 mln pounds ($702.4 mln) for the full year ended July 31 vs company-compiled consensus of 535 mln pounds
** SMIN says it is acquiring US-based Modular Metal Fabricators and Canada's Wattco for up to 110 mln pounds in a bid to expand its presence in the global markets
** Including session's losses, stock has fallen 3% YTD
