USDA raises U.S. corn crop estimate, trims soybean harvest
CHICAGO, Oct 11 (Reuters) -U.S. farmers will harvest more corn than previously expected, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Friday.
USDA predicted farmers will produce 15.203billion bushels of corn, with an average yield of 183.8bushels per acre, in a monthly report. That was upfrom its September forecast for 15.186 billion bushels, with a yield of 183.6 bushels per acre.
Analysts surveyed by Reuters had expected small declines to 15.155 billion bushels and 183.4 bushels per acre.
For soybeans, USDA projected output at a record 4.582billion bushels with an average yield of 53.1bushels per acre, compared to its September estimates for production of 4.586 billion bushels with a yield of 53.2 bushels per acre.
Analysts had expected USDA to peg production at 4.579 billion bushels, with an average yield of 53.1 bushels per acre.
