Asian stocks rallied and the dollar reached a fresh seven-week peak on the yen on Monday after blowout U.S. labour data dispelled fears of a recession and spurred a sharp paring of rate-cut bets.

WORLD OIL PRICES

Oil prices fell on Monday after posting their steepest weekly rise in over a year last week as oversupply concerns amid softer demand countered the worries of a wider Middle East war disrupting exports in the key producing region.

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS

The South African rand edged higher against the dollar despite a strong U.S. jobs report on Friday, after a difficult week for risk sensitive currencies as tensions escalated in the Middle East.


KENYA MARKETS

The Kenyan shilling was steady against the dollar on Friday, London Stock Exchange Group data showed.

RWANDA HEALTH

Rwanda said on Sunday it had begun administering vaccine doses against the Marburg virus to try to combat an outbreak of the Ebola-like disease in the east African country, where it has so far killed 12 people.


RWANDA DIPLOMACY

Rwandan Foreign Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe said on Saturday his Congolese counterpart had refused to sign an agreed deal to help resolve the M23 rebel conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo that has displaced over 1.7 million people.


CONGO HEALTH

Congolese health officials launched their first mpox vaccination campaign on Saturday, a key step in efforts to contain an outbreak that has spread from its epicentre in the Democratic Republic of Congo to numerous other African nations this year.
