Coty rises as Jefferies upgrades to 'buy'

** Shares of cosmetics company Coty COTY.N up as much as6.3% to $9.56 after brokerage Jefferies upgrades the stock to "buy" from "hold"
** Jefferies also raises PT by $1 to $12, saying premium fragrance category, which is 55% of COTY's portfolio, is the fastest-growing segment in the beauty industry
** Notes that Coty-owned CoverGirl's earned media value - a measure of a brand's social media impact - has grown 120% year-on-year in August compared to other beauty companies' total of 15% year-on-year growth due to new launches
** Says COTY's lack of China exposure also negates pressures from the shopper shift toward domestic brands in the region, compared to peers
** Brokerage says potentialbuyback of Gucci license by Kering would be a $1 bln positive cash-flow infusion for COTY; currently Gucci beauty generates ~$500 mln of annual sales for Coty
** Fourteen of 21 brokerages rate the stock "buy" or higher and seven "hold", with a median PT of $13
** Up to Friday's close, stock has fallen 27.6% YTD
